Debitech

Frequently asked questions.

Answers about Debitech, MAPS, TransactNow, authorisation and how an integration starts.

What does Debitech do?

Debitech connects business platforms to supported South African banks. MAPS sends your system a webhook when a supported bank reports an incoming credit, and TransactNow submits payment instructions to supported banks through one REST API.

Is Debitech authorised to provide payment services?

Yes. Debitech (Pty) Ltd is authorised as a System Operator and registered as a Third-Party Payment Provider within South Africa’s National Payment System. The authorisation and registration documents are available on request for vendor review.

Which banks does Debitech support?

Debitech connects to supported South African banks. MAPS availability depends on the bank and account type. TransactNow availability by bank, payment type and channel is confirmed during onboarding.

How does MAPS deliver credit notifications?

MAPS posts incoming credit transactions as JSON to an endpoint you host, with your API key on each delivery. Your system acknowledges a delivery with any 2xx response, and MAPS retries deliveries that are not acknowledged.

How does TransactNow return the status of a payment?

The status comes back in the response to the payment request, and you can query it through the transaction history endpoint. Each payment moves from pending to submitted to a final success or failure state.

Does TransactNow support PayShap?

TransactNow submits each payment through the payment rail you choose. PayShap is available where a supported bank offers it as a rail, and availability is confirmed during onboarding.

How are TransactNow requests secured?

Each request uses an API key, a secret and the client certificate registered for your account, over mutual TLS.

Does Debitech verify customer identity?

Customer verification runs on the VirtuALL platform, which Debitech connects to your service. The customer completes the check in the VirtuALL app, and VirtuALL returns the result to your system.

Who operates the bank connectivity behind Debitech?

netUP Trading (Pty) Ltd operates the underlying bank connectivity and secure managed file transfer. netUP’s bank connectivity has been in production since 2008.
